NBA-AGC 2025 Last Plenary Session – The Future of the NBA

At the Annual General Meeting segment of the ongoing 67th Nigerian Bar Association Annual General Conference (NBA-AGC), NBA President Mazi Afam Osigwe, SAN, made several landmark announcements:

  • NBA-AGC 2026 to Hold in Port Harcourt:
The President declared that, “if all goes well,” the 2026 NBA Annual General Conference will be hosted in Port Harcourt. This announcement drew a standing ovation, particularly from members of the NBA Port Harcourt Branch, marking a moment of celebration as the city regains its hosting rights after the 2025 relocation to Enugu due to the state of emergency in Rivers State. This announcement is made on a clear condition that a democratically elected governor will be in office at the time of the event.
  • Access to Justice – Pro Bono Initiatives:
The President reaffirmed the establishment of a Welfare Pro Bono Fund and confirmed that NBA branches will set up Pro Bono Help Desks, to be manned by NYSC members as part of efforts to expand access to justice and entrench the Association’s service to society.
  • Security & Success of AGC 2025:
President Osigwe also addressed prior security concerns, noting that contrary to speculation about insecurity in the South-East, the 2025 Conference has recorded no incidents or threats. He extended gratitude to the Enugu State Government for its support and commended the Conference Planning Committee (CPC) for their crucial role in the smooth delivery of this year’s AGC.

At BJ Attorneys, we applaud these forward-looking initiatives and reaffirm our commitment to championing reforms that enhance access to justice, deepen professional welfare, and strengthen the role of the NBA as a guardian of the rule of law.
