Legal Practitioners Act, 2004
The Legal Practitioners Act, 2004 (as amended) is the foundational statute governing the admission, regulation, discipline, and practice of legal practitioners in the Federal Republic of Nigeria. It establishes the legal framework for the Body of Benchers, the Legal Practitioners Disciplinary Committee (LPDC), and the Supreme Court’s supervisory authority over the legal profession.
This legislation sets out the criteria for call to the Nigerian Bar, the rights and obligations of legal practitioners, and the disciplinary procedures for professional misconduct. The Act also provides the statutory basis for the issuance of practicing certificates and the enforcement of professional standards, thereby preserving the integrity and dignity of the legal profession in Nigeria.
This act is indispensable for legal practitioners, judicial officers, law students, regulators, and stakeholders concerned with legal ethics, and the administration of justice.
